High School English Teacher
West Michigan Aviation Academy is currently seeking a part-time High School English Teacher. Must have teacher certification with BA or BQ endorsement.
WMAA is an innovative, academically rigorous charter high school with a focus on hands-on aviation and STEM education. Job Summary:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated English Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching literature, writing, and language skills to high school students. This individual will create a stimulating classroom environment, encourage student engagement and participation, and foster a love for reading and writing.
Responsibilities:
Essential Duties:
Teach a diverse curriculum that includes literature, composition, grammar, and language usage while considering varied learning styles and needs.
Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that meet the curriculum standards and cater to diverse learning styles.
Develop assessments and monitor student performance through various methods, including tests, quizzes, projects, and presentations.
Collaborate with colleagues to align curricula and participate in ongoing professional development initiatives.
Participate in school activities, meetings, and events to contribute to the overall mission of the institution.
Maintain a safe and positive environment for all students
Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff
Regular and predictable attendance
Cognitive Demands:
Supervision of multiple students at once
Establishing routines and procedures
Maintaining a safe and orderly environment
Create and implement instructional plans
Participate in continuous professional development
Effective oral and written communication skills
Physical Demands:
Occasionally lift/move objects weighing up to 25lbs
Stand and walk frequently
Occasionally sit on the floor or bend down/squat
Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year
Withstand a moderate noise level
Be able to perform first aid/CPR if necessary
Assist/lift students, as necessary
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field.
Valid teaching certification/license in Michigan for secondary education with a BA or BQ endorsement.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning and assessing educational activities.
Passion for literature and the ability to inspire students to develop their writing and analytical skills.
