School ASL Interpreter
West Michigan Aviation Academy is currently seeking a part-time or full-time ASL Interpreter.

Job Summary:
The ASL Interpreter facilitates communication between a student who is deaf or hard of hearing and their peers, teachers, and other school personnel by interpreting spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa. The interpreter plays a vital role in ensuring equal access to education and full participation in the school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide interpreting services in classrooms, school events, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular activities.
- Interpret spoken English into ASL and ASL into spoken English, maintaining the integrity, intent, and confidentiality of all communications.
- Support student in understanding class content while maintaining a neutral role in the learning process.
- Collaborate with educators, support staff, and parents to provide appropriate accommodations and support.
- Adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct and applicable educational laws (e.g., IDEA, ADA).
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language.
- Certification through the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) with a score meeting state standards (typically 3.5 or higher), RID, or National Interpreting Certification (NIC).
